Parent and Carer Update Week 9

Headteacher Update

Dear Parents, Carers and Pupils of Craigroyston,

I hope you have all had a great week! We continue to be very busy here at Craigroyston and there is much to work forward to as we work towards the summer term!

Priorities

Staffing

As you know, staffing continues to be a challenge. We understand that having a range of supply teachers can be very unsettling for our young people but we ask that they bear with us as we move towards a full staff in August. Thank you also for your understanding with this. Each week we are doing recruitment to ensure that we have the staff required as we move into the new session.

Study Leave and Exams

Study leave will officially begin on Thursday 23rd April. There will be more information to come on this and the process for exams. Assemblies will take place on Tuesday 17th March which will give more information about this.

S6 Leavers’ Celebrations – Broomlee Residential

On Thursday 26th March our S6 pupils will be attending their leavers’ trip to Broomlee Centre in West Linton. If young people do not have a letter, they should pick one up from me. Please ensure that any slips are handed back to me by Friday 20th March so that we can confirm numbers. Any money should be paid directly to the school office. We’re very excited about our trip away!

Easter Study

The timetable for Easter Study for S4- S6 timetables will be sent home to parents/carers this week.
School Security

Although we are putting many measures in place, we continue to experience vandalism to the toilets, drama studio and assembly hall. Furthermore, some young people are leaving their litter lying around the school or throwing food/juice down the corridors/stairs. We want our school to be a pleasant, safe learning environment for everyone and equally want to focus our funding on education and not repairs. We will speaking with our young people about this but any support with discussions around this at home would be really appreciated! Thank you!

Staffing

This week we interviewed for the Curricular Leader of Languages and Teacher of HE – both permanent positions. The outcomes of these interviews will be shared in the coming weeks.

On Monday 16th March the interviews for a new DHT (long leet) will be taking place.

The following post is currently advertised on myjobscotland:

Teacher of English (permanent)
Teacher of Support for Learning (permanent)
Curricular Leader of Expressive Arts (permanent)

A huge thank you to our S1 and S3 pupils who have been part of the interview/teaching panel for our recent recruitments. They have given excellent feedback and been very insightful in their decision making!
Headteacher Highlights

S3 University Visit

A huge well done to all 39 pupils who attended the LEAPS trip today to Napier University! They were very excited about going and thoroughly enjoyed it! Thank you so much to Helen, Colm and Eve for taking the pupils!

Career Ready 2026
This week our pupils involved in Career Ready attended their graduation! It was a wonderful event celebrating the achievements of our wonderful young people! Our pupils started the programme in November 2024, completed an internship last summer and have completed six masterclasses within that time which is an incredible achievement! The pupils involved in the programme are: Sophie A, Kira, Lucy W, Gabby and Daniella. Chloe McD and Holly N were also part of this but didn’t attend the graduations. A massive well done to all of them and a big thank you to Susanne for running the programme. Great work everyone!

Handball Qualification

A huge well done to our S3 pupils who completed their Handball Level 1 Qualification! It is so important that we give our young people as many strings to their bow as possible and it is things like this that really help with that! Thank you to Cameron for organising and facilitating this!
