Craigroyston Community High School Wider Achievements

What is “Wider Achievement”?
We are very proud of the achievements of our pupils. Our whole school priorities reflect this and emphasise the importance of “continued celebration of achievements.” Our pupils are involved and achieve in a wide range of activities, including:

• extra-curricular opportunities
• youth work
• volunteering
• part-time employment
• hobbies and interests
• projects that they undertake across the curriculum
• helping out at home
• any area where skills for life, learning and work are developed

“Achievement covers learning within curriculum areas as well as other areas within the life of our
school and outside school.”
(Building the Curriculum 5)

Why is Wider Achievement Important?

Wider Achievement is central to Curriculum for Excellence and our school ethos with all pupils encouraged to participate in curricular and extra-curricular activities.

Participation in these activities allow our young people to develop key skills for life, learning and work that are important in day-to-day life and when seeking employment and further education.

We also encourage pupils to share their successes for recognition, as we believe it can increase confidence, raise aspirations and improve motivation for learning.

How do we Collect Information?
We want to make sure that young people get full recognition for all their achievements.

We have recently implemented a new system of recognising wider achievement giving pupils responsibility through the formation of the Achievement Committee. The committee is made up of two confident and communicative pupils from each tutor group. These pupils collect information from their peers regarding achievements and feed back to the lead teacher.

This information is then celebrated at the achievement celebrations on a monthly basis.
This project has strengthened the communication lines between pupils and the lead teacher and allows us to gain a greater knowledge of our pupils’ achievements.

How do we Celebrate Achievements?
We use a wide range of approaches for reporting, recognising and celebrating achievements at Craigroyston Community High School.

Learners’ achievements in curriculum are being celebrated through faculty or department awards, certificates and noticeboards. We also invite pupils, parents, staff and partners to celebrate successes during our S1-3 praise awards.
We recognise all of our achievements at our monthly achievement celebrations and share this with all pupils, parents and partners through our school twitter page @CCHSEdinburgh. Give it a follow!

Parents, carers and partners to the school can get involved as well. If you know of any pupils who should be recognised for an achievement, please contact us with the name of the pupil and a description of the achievement using the form below.
